Recruiting Refresher: Safety

As we move further back in our defensive recruiting refresher, the quality depth does not improve. The Aggies are looking to take at least two safeties in 2014 to go with the three they took last year.

Commit:

Dylan Sumner-Gardner

The West Mesquite safety, and high school teammate of 2013 signee Kam Miles, is a consensus four-star prospect and top-15 guy in Texas his year. When he committed back in March, DSG chose the Ags over the likes of Texas, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, LSU, and roughly ten other programs. At 6'1" 195-pounds, Sumner-Gardner is a tackling machine out of the defensive backfield with plenty of speed as well. He has accepted an invitation to attend the 2014 Under Armour All-American Game.

Offers:

Jamal Adams

The 247Sports Composite five-star, and #2 safety in the nation, understandably has offers from almost every major program. At the moment however, it seems to be a three horse race with Florida in the lead over Texas A&M and Texas. Adam's God-father is Gator's wide receiver coach Joker Phillips and that will be a tough obstacle to overcome for either Texas program. A four year starter for Hebron (Carrollton, TX), Adams has tallied almost 180 tackles, 9 interceptions, 1 force fumble, and 1 fumble recovery heading into his senior season. He is also a 2014 Under Armour All-American selection.

Steven Parker

Defensive backs coach Marcel Yates also has the Aggies in the top three for Jenks, Oklahoma safety Steven Parker. The Aggies are battling the home-state Sooners for Parker's commitment with both schools thought to be ahead of Oklahoma State. Parker is a consensus four-star and ranked as the #9 safety in the country by 247Sports Composite. At 6'2" 190-pounds and a 4.5 forty, he is rangy with good size.

In-State Guy I Like:

Davion Hall

Hall was also listed in our wide receiver break down you can read HERE because that's where he wants to play at the next level. He is however, listed as a safety prospect by most services. 247Sports Composite has him as the #5 safety in the nation. The Texarkana native is still a soft Baylor commit and this recruitment looks like it will be interesting to follow up until Signing Day.
