Fish Pond Time Machine: Texas A&M at Hawaii 9/1/1990

There's obviously no football game for the Texas Aggies today, and the slate of games on TV doesn't make this a terribly exciting opening weekend. So come with us now on a journey through time and space to Aloha Stadium on September 1, 1990. R.C. Slocum's 13th ranked Aggies took an epic road trip to meet Bob Wagner's Rainbow Warriors of Hawaii to open the season. It would be the first time the two teams played and, to date, is the only meeting.

The Wrecking Crew, anchored by Quentin Coryatt and Kevin Smith, stifled Hawaii's offense led by QB Garrett Gabriel. That same offense would go on to average more than 30 points per game in 1990. The Aggie offense led by Bucky Richardson and Darren Lewis put up a touchdown in all four quarters on their way to a 28-13 victory. Texas A&M finished the season 9-3-1 (5-2-1 SWC) and obliterated BYU and Ty Detmer's shoulders in the Holiday Bowl. Actually, let's just watch highlights of that game.
