Aggies Add Top JUCO Linebacker

Kevin Sumlin added another key piece to his recruiting class with linebacker Kenny Flowers.

A recruitment that lasted longer than most expected came to an end today. Hutchinson Community College outside linebacker Kenny Flowers had Texas A&M listed as his favorite since visiting campus for the South Carolina State game. The 6'2" 230-pound Georgia native originally listed the Arkansas Razorbacks as the Aggies' primary competition. However, after their disastrous season, the Ags quickly took the lead and never looked back.

Flowers is the leading tackler on his Blue Dragon squad with 64 total tackles, including 5.0 for a loss. On the season he has 1 interception as well as 1 fumble return for a touchdown. He has also forced a fumble and recorded a sack.

With the Aggies losing two veteran linebackers in Sean Porter and Jonathan Stewart to graduation, Flowers is a huge pickup for his primary recruiter and position coach, Matt Wallerstedt. As a Juco player, he should have an easier transition into Division-1 football with a smaller learning curve to lessen the loss of Porter next season. Kenny is a mid-term graduate who will enroll at A&M in January and have three years left of eligibility after redshirting last year.

Flowers is a three-star player and rated as the fourth best junior college linebacker in the country by 247Sports.com's Composite Rankings. He is the fifth linebacker commit for the Aggies in 2013; joining Brett Wade, Darian Claiborne, Reggie Chevis, and Edward Williams.

Here are some highlights of Flowers from Fall/Spring camp. His fumble return is the only highlight from this season available. It is located under "Top Play".
