Bill Hancock and various other old men were tasked with naming the 4-team college football playoff that they previously fought against. Out of 30-something proposed names, they decided to run with "College Football Playoff" and it's hard to argue with Bill's rationale.

With the name in place, the next task was crowdsourcing for a logo. Out of four 1995 web logos put forth, the football clipart won the online vote after some controversy and beat out my own proposed animated combo logo.

Bill Hancock's no-fluff marketing approach teaches us that brand names should describe the product simply and logos should be a crude drawing of that product. This is what the world might look like if Bill Hancock was a marketing consultant.

Nike

The italicized font represents motion and evokes images of a runner leaning forward on the starting blocks. The varying perceptual distances of the shoes in the fore- and background teach us that we still have a long way to go. Also, the lifetime value of customers is appreciated with the small shoe fitting on a baby foot and the large one fitting on that baby who is now a professional athlete.

Starbucks

The overhead view of this cup of joe encourages consumers to dive right in and spend green money. The stars on each side of the mug represent human dimples because coffee makes you smile.

Google

An empty text field implies limitless possibilities and word combinations. There are 6 letters but only 4 colors in the text portion of the logo to show people that sometimes the internet is unpredictable. The shadow behind the text lets customers know that they are not alone and our search engine has their backs.

Shell

Red diagonals represent nitrogen that helps keep fuel injectors clean and also the fire danger of gasoline. The slight dip in the bottom of the gas can shows consumers that we give a little extra. It should be pointed out to customers that the yellow tube is not a straw.

Trojan

Lane Kiffin wearing a condom hat represents supreme flexibility and comfort. The logo symbolically shows that our product should be worn by dicks.

Pepsi

The soda can is a ying and yang of soda with red representing Coca-cola flavor and blue being extra corn syrup. All soda is called Coke and consumers prefer products that are similar to the prototype.

The four white lines in the banner represent the ceremonial four lines of coke sniffed off a hooker’s thigh by officials during Fiesta Bowl planning, and the year happens to represent the one January not affected by the decision between the announcement and the actual first playoff game. The shaded and light portions of the football represent the duality of Man. That whole Jungian thing.

Andrew Hancock (@HancockPhoto) recently visited Aggieland for a photoshoot with the 12th Man Foundation. The subjects of the shoot were Johnny Manziel, Mike Evans, and Jake Matthews. Lucas Jackson and I were invited to tag along and assist. We are going to feature a more extensive piece that includes an interview with Andrew in the future, but here are a few photos I snapped on my iPhone.

Andy is one of the greatest sports photographers in the world, so the final works will be amazing. His photo of the 12th Man during the 2010 Nebraska game is among the most iconic photos in Aggie history. You can see and buy a print of that photo here. He's also done a lot of great work for Sports Illustrated including this Honey Badger cover photo.

Make sure your 12th Man Foundation membership is up-to-date because you won't want to miss 12th Man Magazine when Andy's photos are run.

I said HOWDY!

My name is cuppycup and I am thrilled to be joining this SB Nation blog with Scipio Tex and, presumably, a bunch of other people. I started my blogging career right here on Barking Carnival so I was excited to wake up this morning and learn I'd been reassigned from the Good Bull Hunting ~~Aggie~~ aggy blog. My official role here at BC will be "Traditions Officer" but I will also be writing a series of Reggie McNeal vs. Vince Young retrospectives that I think you'll enjoy.

Don't let my A&M education cloud your judgments of me. Rick Perry has shown that members of rival schools can work harmoniously together, whether it's on a Board of Regents or a sports blog. Johnny Manziel has proven that Aggies can be loyal Longhorn fans. While I do not hold any degrees from the University of Texas, I understand this is encouraged here. Like most Aggies, I already own a tremendous amount of Longhorn merchandise. I just need some horn glue.

Below, please find a summary of my qualifications to write for BC:

I live in Texas.
I am growing a beard to parallel my rugged writing style.
The Longhorn Network is not available in my area, but I want it.

I am looking forward to whooping it up over here and adding a much needed agricultural slant to the writing and GIFing. BC is a young blog but I know we have a bright future. We're working on bringing in some wonderful writers in 2016.
