Last week I started what will be a weekly thing after each game. Here is the next installment of three stats that I thought might interest you.
- Kenny Hill is the only quarterback in the nation to throw at least seven touchdown passes so far this year without any interceptions.
- Taylor Bertolet has kicked off 21 times, most in the nation. That's what happens when you average 62.5 points per game (#1 in the nation for teams who have played more than one game) and have scored 17 touchdowns (#1 in the nation). And he's doing a good job with the kickoffs. His touchback rate is a healthy 71%. Among kickers who have kicked at least 16 times, only one other kicker has a higher touchback rate.
- Two games in, and A&M has not allowed a single run of 20+ yards nor have they allowed a rushing touchdown. Last year A&M allowed three 20 yard runs and two touchdowns in the first game of the year, against Rice.
- (I lied about only doing three.) In the latest Sagarin ratings, A&M is ranked #4 in the nation, with six of the top eight being from the SEC.
- (The deception continues.) One more about defensive improvement. In Sumlin's first two years, A&M played three FCS opponents. Those three teams combined for 6.5 yards per attempt and a rating of 111. This year, against an FCS opponent, we allowed just 3.6 yards per attempt and a rating of 64.
- (My pants are literally on fire now.) Against South Carolina, A&M had 29 plays of at least ten yards. That is a huge number. Against Lamar, we still had 20, which is still a very good number. For the season, our 49 such plays are #1 in the nation.
