A shoutout to our teams ranked in the top 10

In the previous 4 school years, A&M has won a total of 9 all-around team titles: 3 in men's outdoor Track and Field, 3 in women's outdoor Track and Field, and 1 each in women's Basketball, men's Golf, and Equestrian. That's just over 2 a year.

You'll notice each of those sports awards its championship after February. For those of you who don't visit often, I wanted to make a short post calling attention to the sports most likely to add to that total this year: sports currently active that also have a ranking in the top 10 of their sport.

#9/10 Women's Basketball, after winning the SEC tournament, will host their selection show party Monday evening on campus, as they find out which schools will travel to College Station to start the tournament.

#10 Women's Swimming and Diving finished second in the SEC meet in College Station. The team will compete in the NCAA Championship starting this Thursday.

#3 Women's Tennis had dominant wins this weekend against LSU and Arkansas to get their overall record to 13-1 (6-0 SEC). Thus far, their sole loss is to current #1 North Carolina.

#5/7 Softball swept Arkansas this weekend to improve their record to 26-2 (4-1 SEC). SEC softball is quite deep, and they will face a difficult task next weekend as they travel to #7/6 Tennessee.

#6 Equestrian, the defending National champions, had a dissapointing regular season, finshing 5-6 (1-5 SEC). Still, that's good enough for a top 10 team given the strength of the SEC and the small number of schools that participate in the sport nationally. Hopefully they'll do better at the SEC championship at the end of the month.

The outdoor track and field teams have a chance to be ranked in the top ten whenever the first rankings for their sport come out. They had a strong start to the outdoor season this weekend. At the indoor nationals the men finished 4th and the women 12th; the teams usually do better in the outdoor meets.

Other sports are in the top 25 nationally (men's Tennis, men's Swimming and Diving, and women's Golf), but this article is just about those in the top 10!
