In the previous 4 school years, A&M has won a total of 9 all-around team titles: 3 in men's outdoor Track and Field, 3 in women's outdoor Track and Field, and 1 each in women's Basketball, men's Golf, and Equestrian. That's just over 2 a year.
You'll notice each of those sports awards its championship after February. For those of you who don't visit Aggieathletics.com often, I wanted to make a short post calling attention to the sports most likely to add to that total this year: sports currently active that also have a ranking in the top 10 of their sport.
#9/10 Women's Basketball, after winning the SEC tournament, will host their selection show party Monday evening on campus, as they find out which schools will travel to College Station to start the tournament.
#6 Equestrian, the defending National champions, had a dissapointing regular season, finshing 5-6 (1-5 SEC). Still, that's good enough for a top 10 team given the strength of the SEC and the small number of schools that participate in the sport nationally. Hopefully they'll do better at the SEC championship at the end of the month.
The outdoor track and field teams have a chance to be ranked in the top ten whenever the first rankings for their sport come out. They had a strong start to the outdoor season this weekend. At the indoor nationals the men finished 4th and the women 12th; the teams usually do better in the outdoor meets.
Other sports are in the top 25 nationally (men's Tennis, men's Swimming and Diving, and women's Golf), but this article is just about those in the top 10!
