(Aggie-centric) Texas High School Football Play-offs

Robert Mayer-US PRESSWIRE

The 2013 Texas high school football regular season is finished and the play-offs are here!

(Thank you Jim Mora for making it impossible to say, write or type the word "play-offs" without hearing it in his nasal whine.)

As many of you know, I am a little fish in the high school football coaching pond. My team was mathematically eliminated from the post-season back in September (more on that another time), but I will still be following the high school play-off brackets closely. I love our play-off system in the state of Texas! It provides an even mix of classic, traditional match-ups within regions but also creates some very unique games that we don't get to see during the regular season. Hopefully this little break-down will provide you with a few resources to help you keep up with some of your local teams, track the progress of a few key Aggie recruits and maybe even pick a couple of games to attend in person.

First of all, a few valuable resources:

The UIL website has started doing a much better job with their brackets and scores and information the last couple of years (in the past it was pretty dreadful). Here's a direct link to all the play-off brackets. UIL also has a twitter feed, but it's more for news and general info.

My favorite online resource for scores and information is Texas High School Football's website. They do daily scoring updates, play-off brackets and even keep up with recruiting and coaching information. Their twitter feed is also one of the best I have found. Live updates with lots of good up-to-the-moment information.

Local newspaper and television stations are probably your best bet for following the play-offs whether you are in the major metroplexes or out in West Texas. Most have twitter accounts or will have someone on site to report on your local teams.

Alright, let's look at the brackets!

For time's sake, I'll only be looking at the play-off brackets for 5A and 4A schools. There are some fantastic programs in the smaller divisions and they play some great football, but for this post, I'll be focusing on the programs at the largest two divisions. I've tried my best to track down the location and time of the games for you, but double-check before you head out the door. Also, click the players name to see their HUDL highlights (if available).

Feel free to post your own play-off experiences, games you'll be attending or teams you want more info on. I'll try to add a few scores and track our recruits as the rounds advance.
